Hévíz-Balaton Airport performs well
Hévíz has established a 100 per cent local government owned company for the operation of Hévíz-Balaton Airport this year. Although the flying season has not ended yet, it is clear that the Hévíz-Balaton Airport Ltd. is able to accomplish and even over-fulfil its annual business plan. The local government didn’t have to put any extra money in the running of the airport apart from the amount they set aside for the operation of the airport before the foundation of the limited company, at the time of the annual budget set-up.
Mayor Papp Gábor conferred on the possibility to launch new flights and charters also in Pyatigorsk and Moscow the other day. He thought because there is a keen interest in our country and Hévíz from Russia in turn they should grasp the opportunity.

After the withdrawal of the soviet army in 1991 significant kerosene, petrol and diesel oil pollution remained at the territory of the ex-soviet military airport in Sármellék. The damage repair of the now civilian airport, which is owned by Sármellék and Zalavár and located between the two villages, has been on the agenda for almost two decades. The pollution is harmful to health and environment and the decontamination exceeded the financial possibilities of the local governments. The framework of the New Hungary Development Plan - Environment and Energy Operational Program (KEOP) “Damage repair of contaminated land’s work achievement” (KEOP-2.4.0) gives a chance for the damage repair. After many years following the design work by the help of the EU co-financed KEOP finally, the construction work could start and the damage repair can be realized.
